1940-1945. The resistance in the dutch province of Limburg

NSDAP

Dutch Province of Limburg 2019

National Socialists

The German Hitler party was called N.S.D.A.P., in full Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, founded on February 24, 1920. The program of that party had nothing to do with socialism, it was only about arousing sympathy and more among the German workers. However, by the way, with much less success than they had hoped.
Below we will deal with that party only as far as Limburg is concerned. For the NSDAP in general, please consult Wikipedia. [1]

Many Germans were already living in the Netherlands before the German invasion, especially of course in the border area. This was especially the case in the mining region of Limburg. Because there was much more coal mining in Germany than in the Netherlands, there was also a lot of know-how there at all levels. During the economic depression, many people from German mining industry came to the Netherlands. Not only was the pay better, but there were hardly any language problems. Everyone in Limburg spoke some German and the regional language did not sound very strange to German ears.
When National Socialism emerged, Germans also joined the party in the Limburg mining area. After the German invasion, many more Germans lived in the occupied territories and the number of party members grew accordingly.

During the last winter of the war, when most of Dutch Limburg was liberated, the remaining part was incorporated by Germany until the end of the war. This was the eastern bank of the Maas, from Roermond to Gennep.
