Emma Horn was of German origin and became Dutch through her marriage to Servaas Soesman from Valkenburg. They lived at Berkelstraat 15, Valkenburg. She was 73 years old at the time of her deportation. She and her husband were the oldest Jews deported from Valkenburg.

The deportation of the Valkenburg Jews took place in three waves: on August 25, 1942, November 11, 1942, and April 10, 1943. The couple was deported in the third wave. In Maastricht, it became apparent that Servaas was too weak to continue traveling. He was taken to the Jewish hospital there and died a month and a half later on May 26, 1943. Emma had already died then in Camp Vught, from where she was to be transported to one of the extermination camps in the east.
